EU tourism dashboard

The EU Tourism Dashboard is an online knowledge tool developed and maintained by the European Commission to provide data and indicators on the European tourism ecosystem. It is designed to support the monitoring of tourism's green and digital transitions and its socio-economic resilience, and to support evidence-based policies and strategies in the tourism sector.

Author: European Commission

The dashboard presents interactive visualisations that allow users to examine tourism-related indicators for European destinations.

The dashboard's indicator framework is organised around three policy pillars: green, digital and socio-economic, complemented by basic descriptors characterising tourism destinations in terms of their demand, supply and tourism offer. The data cover the EU countries as well as Iceland, Norway and Switzerland, with indicators available at national and, where possible, regional level. The 2025 update expanded the coverage to some municipal-level indicators.

Examples of indicators and descriptors include tourism intensity, tourism seasonality, tourism expenditure, tourism employment, internet speed at tourism destinations, e-commerce activity, air-travel emission intensity and bathing-water quality.

The underlying data are drawn primarily from Eurostat and complemented by additional data processed by the Joint Research Centre. The dashboard data are updated annually.

Why it is useful for rural areas

The dashboard provides information that can help users examine tourism patterns and conditions at different territorial levels, including regions and, for some indicators, municipalities. The dashboard therefore provides a common set of indicators that can be used to examine tourism-related characteristics and trends in individual destinations and compare them with other territories.

Several indicators are particularly relevant when considering rural tourism, including tourism intensity and seasonality, tourism diversity, tourism employment, internet speed, tourism's environmental performance and indicators describing the tourism offer.

Who is this resource for?

The dashboard is intended for:

  • national, regional and local authorities;

  • tourism stakeholders;

  • researches and other users working with tourism data.

About the organisation

The European Commission is the EU institution responsible, among other functions, for proposing EU policies and legislation, monitoring their implementation and managing the EU budget. The EU Tourism Dashboard is maintained through Commission services including the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport and the Joint Research Centre. The JRC provides the scientific and data-related contribution to the dashboard and maintains the associated data collection. The dashboard forms part of the European Commission's work to monitor the tourism ecosystem and support its green and digital transitions and socio-economic resilience.
