The European Commission is calling on public and private organisations across the EU to submit pledges for concrete actions contributing to the green and digital transitions by 1 December 2024. The Commission will support the implementation of the pledges, facilitate exchange of knowledge and best practices.

New CoR report: regions call for strategies supporting rural development and territorial cohesion
Demographic challenges such as ageing, brain drain, depopulation and rural-urban disparities are increasingly affecting regional competitiveness and social cohesion. The 2024 report of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) outlines the most pressing issues regions face and on-the-ground solutions to inform EU policy decisions.

EESC calls for coherent and robust EU action to enhance bioeconomy opportunities for rural areas
A new opinion of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) calls for policy coherence of the EU’s sustainable development initiatives and taking advantage of bioeconomy opportunities for competitive growth within planetary boundaries, including in rural areas.

Open call for regions to localise the SDGs – deadline extended
Regions looking to enhance their local policies related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are invited to apply by 30 November to participate in the ‘2030CATALYSTS’ preparatory action of the European Commission’s Join Research Centre (JRC).

Michael Dower Award for rural resilience open for applications
The newly launched Michael Dower Award will recognise successful examples of individual and community-led initiatives that work towards enhancing rural resilience. Applications are open until 14 February 2025.
