How can rural voices help shape the next EU policy framework, and what approaches can strengthen the attractiveness, resilience and prosperity of rural areas? The fourth edition of the Rural Vision Magazine brings together perspectives and experiences from policymakers, practitioners, researchers and rural stakeholders.

The edition opens with an editorial by Raffaele Fitto, European Commission Executive Vice-President for Cohesion and Reforms, highlighting the forthcoming European strategy for the ‘right to stay’ and the importance of coordinated, place-based approaches to creating the conditions for people to build their futures where they choose to live.

Against the backdrop of preparations for the post-2027 EU policy and budget framework, the Magazine explores why early rural stakeholder engagement in the proposed National and Regional Partnership Plans (NRPPs) matters. It also presents perspectives from the European Committee of the Regions and European Economic and Social Committee on strengthening the rural dimension of future EU policies and rural proofing.

Further articles look at integrated approaches to rural attractiveness and territorial development, generational renewal beyond farming, and the conditions needed for rural innovation ecosystems to thrive.
