New study examines policy and legal frameworks for female-led rural innovation

The publication, produced by the EU-funded FLIARA project, highlights gaps within the current policy landscape such as limited targeted business support, barriers to finance, and untapped potential in sustainability transitions.

The study overviews measures that promote civic engagement, entrepreneurship, and farm investment for rural women, but calls attention to the lack of coherent frameworks specifically supporting women-led innovation.

The publication reveals that existing mechanisms, such as grants and low-interest loans, often fail to address the unique challenges faced by female innovators. Additionally, policy and legal frameworks do not take women’s entrepreneurial approaches into account, particularly in collaborative business models, knowledge-based services, or social entrepreneurship.

The FLIARA project works to boost understanding of the needs and challenges of women leading innovative environmental and rural development practices in EU farming and rural areas.
