New EU research and innovation funding for the green and digital transitions

The European Commission has mobilised previously unallocated Horizon Europe funding to increase the 2024 budget of the EU's research and innovation programme by nearly EUR 1.4 billion. The amendment features opportunities for green and digital development in rural areas.

This update of the 2023-24 work programme of Horizon Europe covers:

  • An additional EUR 648 million for activities within the five EU Missions, including actions to lead the transition towards healthy soils and to prepare local and regional authorities to face climate-related risks;
  • A package of new experimental actions with a total budget of EUR 76 million to test new approaches in the areas of health; climate, energy and mobility; and food, bioeconomy, natural resources, agriculture and environment;
  • Preparing the ground for a New European Bauhaus facility to ensure Europeans continue to benefit from green and digital solutions to concrete problems.
