The project conducted the research activities and engage stakeholders through Multi-Actor Platforms (MAPs) in 23 mountain regions across 16 countries. These regions encompass a wide range of mountain areas in Europe and neighboring countries, showcasing their diverse characteristics.

While 43.5% of respondents from MOVING regions acknowledged that natural sites present challenges for mountain value chains due to stricter regulations on business activities, land and resource utilisation, and limitations on tourism and visitor management, a significant majority of 82% recognised the opportunities provided by these areas, including economic, environmental, and social benefits.

From an environmental perspective, the presence of protected natural sites enables the implementation of extensive management and sustainable farming practices. These practices not only produce high-quality food products but also provide valuable ecosystem services.

The report's findings will be discussed in more detail at the next EU MAP webinar, on October 5, 2023, where participants will look at the implications of protected areas on mountain value chains, in line with the EU Biodiversity Strategy and the Nature Restoration Act.
