A new publication by Eurostat, the EU’s statistical office, provides an overview of the EU’s food chain, from primary production through to consumption and environmental aspects related to the various stages of the food chain.
The publication provides key data on agricultural production, employment and economic aspects and goes on to explore downstream activities such as processing, wholesaling and retailing, as well as consumption. It features data on rural development funding, food price inflation and consumption expenditure.
It concludes with a chapter on environmental aspects, such as fertiliser and pesticide use, greenhouse gas emissions, and waste, outlining key messages for the EU, and highlighting the main players and key specialisations.
