Innovation for place-based transformations: collection of activities, practices and tools

A recent publication by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) calls for interterritorial collaboration, network governance and coordinated policy action to enable efforts at the local, regional and national levels. This would help to achieve long-term societal wellbeing and climate resilient development.

The publication, titled ‘Innovation for place-based transformations’, is divided in three parts:

  1. an ACTIONbook outlining activities to build strategic and purpose-driven partnerships within an institution, department, territory, and across boundaries in order to achieve fair green and digital transitions. The ACTIONbook is divided in six chapters overviewing thematic activities related to engaging, envisioning, orchestrating, designing, implementing and learning.
  2. a collection of practices from territories describing existing approaches to place-based, transformative innovation across Europe (such as the rural-urban hub Cluj-Napoca, Romania).
  3. a collection of tools for actiontowards place-based transformations, linked to the activities described in the ACTIONbook, which can be used to put the latter in practice (such as the European Startup Village Forum).
