The resource showcases stories of women-led rural and farming innovation, including lessons for innovators, policymakers and others involved in supporting rural innovation and development. The guide draws from the FLIARA project’s 20 national case studies, which involved 200 women across 10 European countries.

Providing lessons from the ground -up, it identifies a set of good practices that enable women-led rural and farm innovation. These include:

  • Harnessing the power of networks and connecting with like-minded individuals;

  • Fostering learning and upskilling across all stages of the innovation journey;

  • Developing innovation through digital and technological solutions;

  • Increasing the visibility of women-led innovations;

  • Building on local social, cultural and environmental resources.

Additionally, the guide reflects on policy actions that can boost innovation, including supporting access to finance, learning and development, work-life balance and women’s involvement in decision-making.

Funded by Horizon Europe, the FLIARA project ran from 2023 to 2025 and aimed to promote understanding of the needs and challenges facing women leading innovative practices in farming and rural areas.
