Share your thoughts on connectivity needs for precision farming in EU rural areas

Rural and remote areas often face weaker connectivity – both in coverage and performance – higher deployment costs and more frequent service limitations than cities. Closing these connectivity gaps is vital for translating the EU’s digital ambitions into action in rural areas and making the most of digital technology for precision agriculture. Contribute by filling in a survey on connectivity conditions in rural Europe.

The survey is targeted at farmers, agricultural machinery and technology companies, and connectivity service providers. Its aim is to better understand current connectivity conditions in rural areas across Europe and the impact this has on the development of precision agriculture and adoption of new technologies in the agricultural sector.

The survey is being conducted by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia together with the BCO Network (Broadband Competence Offices) Support Facility, a European Commission initiative that supports countries and regions in deploying high-speed broadband, in particular in rural and remote areas.

Under the Digital Decade ambition for 2030, the EU is aiming for Gigabit connectivity for all European households and 5G coverage for all populated areas, including for rural and remote areas. The European Commission's Vision for Agriculture and Food identifies digitalisation as a key driver supporting the agri-food sector’s competitiveness and sustainability.
