The survey aims to collect feedback on the main challenges faced by EU islands, concrete proposals for overcoming these difficulties and stakeholders’ expectations on EU action.

The consultation will focus on the main short- and long-term challenges for EU islands, assessing existing EU policies, exploring how the new strategy should complement actions at national, regional and local levels, defining stakeholders’ expectations and gathering proposed measures. It will also address the main challenges faced by young people on islands and how the new strategy could increase the attractiveness of these territories.

The feedback is set to inform the development of the EU strategy for islands, aimed at strengthening their economic competitiveness and attractiveness, fostering resilience and sustainability, addressing structural demographic challenges and promoting the ‘right to stay’, as well as supporting islands as strategic contributors to the EU’s defence and security.

Stakeholders can submit their feedback until 1 April.

The survey mainly targets national, regional and local authorities, civil society, local communities, other stakeholders and representatives based on islands or working on island development issues.
