The call for evidence aims to collect feedback on the main challenges faced by EU coastal communities, as well as key EU action needed to help communities and authorities overcome them.
The consultation will focus on short- and long-term issues, assessing the performance of existing EU policies, looking at how the new strategy should complement actions at national, regional and local levels, defining stakeholders’ expectations and gathering proposed measures.
The feedback will contribute to the development of the EU strategy for coastal communities. Announced in the European Ocean Pact, the strategy will aim to boost economic competitiveness, enhance resilience and adaptation, and foster inclusive and vibrant coastal communities. The initiative is expected to be adopted by summer 2026.
Contributions to the call for evidence can be submitted by 23 March 2026 in any of the EU’s official languages via the dedicated platform.
The consultation mainly targets national, regional and local authorities, academia, local communities, other representatives based in coastal communities, and stakeholders working on coastal development issues.
