The European Commission is calling on public and private organisations across the EU to submit pledges for concrete actions contributing to the green and digital transitions by 1 December 2024. The Commission will support the implementation of the pledges, facilitate exchange of knowledge and best practices.

The call for pledges falls within the framework of the ‘Proximity and social economy transition pathway’. The pathway constitutes a roadmap to support local industries, small businesses and social economy actors in areas linked to the circular economy, health and care services, culture, renewable energy, and housing.
Action areas of particular relevance for rural actors include business-to-business collaboration for greener and circular value chains; Local Green Deals, green business communities and citizens' initiatives; innovation; greening infrastructures and business operations.
Rural actors are further encouraged to join the European social economy regions initiative intended to raise awareness at regional and local levels and to build a network of social economy stakeholders.
