Agri-food data portal

The agri-food data portal is an online data platform by the European Commission on national and European agriculture and on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). It brings together a range of data visualisations and information resources in one portal.

Access the resource

Author: European Commission

The portal is organised into several main areas:

  • Agri-food markets provides market data on agriculture at national and European level, including information on trade, prices and production;

  • CAP indicators presents information relating to the Common Agricultural Policy and its financial support, interventions and indicators;

  • Farm economics provides economic information on European farms, including productivity, profitability, subsidies, economic structure and finances, based on data from the Farm Sustainability Data Network;

  • Geodata provides access to Member States’ geoportals for Integrated Administration and Control System (IACS) spatial data and interactive maps for CAP context indicators;

  • The EU financing section provides information on expenditure on CAP market measures, direct support and rural development;

  • Country factsheets provide agricultural and rural development information at EU and country levels, based on CAP objectives and indicators.

The portal also contains thematic and interactive resources, including the ‘Agri Sustainability Compass’, structural data on agriculture, and a Ukraine-related economic statistics section.

Why it is useful for rural areas

The portal provides data that can help users examine agricultural, economic, financial and policy-related developments relevant to rural territories. Its CAP sections include information on interventions, indicators and financing, while its farm economics section provides data on the economic structure and performance of European farms.

Who is this resource for?

The portal can be used by:

  • public authorities and policymakers;

  • researchers and analysts;

  • farmers and organisations working in the agri-food sector

  • agriculture and rural development stakeholders seeking EU or national-level data on agriculture, CAP implementation, farm economics, agricultural markets, financing or food supply and security.

About the organisation

The European Commission is the EU institution responsible, among other functions, for proposing EU policies and legislation, monitoring their implementation and managing the EU budget. The agri-food data portal is provided by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI). The portal supports access to data used across areas including agricultural markets, the CAP, farm economics, financing and food supply and security.
