Rural people spend more in personal transport equipment

People living in rural areas spent a higher proportion of their total household expenditure for the operation of personal transport equipment.

Reka transport

Operation of personal transport equipment covers: spare parts and accessories for personal transport equipment (e.g.: tyres, batteries, filters, pumps) and fuels and lubricants (e.g.: petrol and other fuels such as diesel, liquid petroleum gas, alcohol and two-stroke mixtures, lubricants, brake and transmission fluids, coolants, additives) for personal transport equipment.

At national level in 2020 the lowest share was measured in Belgium (4.7 %), while the highest share was 10.4 % in Slovenia. (No data available for Ireland, Portugal, Finland, Sweden and Romania.)

The biggest difference in the structure of expenditure for the operation of personal transport equipment was observed in Slovenia, where people living in rural areas spent on average 11.7 % on these items, compared with a 7.8 % share for people living in cities.

Bulgaria was an exception, insofar as people living in cities devoted a slightly higher share of their total household expenditure to the operation of personal transport equipment than those living in rural areas (5.4 % compared with 5.1 %).
