The Sustainable Island Mobility Plan Guide (SIMP), developed by CIVINET Greece-Cyprus with the University of the Aegean and co-funded by the CIVITAS Initiative, offers a hands-on framework for designing affordable, people-centred mobility in small and medium-sized territories. Its approach also translates to rural areas facing sparse public transport, long distances to services, seasonality, and the need to safeguard natural and cultural heritage while improving access.

European Commission recommends strategic response to transport poverty

A new European Commission recommendation (2025/1021) calls on EU Member States to develop strategic approaches for combating and preventing transport poverty, identifying at-risk populations and areas, and adopting inclusive mobility policies.

Continuous networking and exchange to shape the future of rural mobility

Rural mobility needs EU-scale solutions that take account of local needs in rural areas, SMARTA-NET project final conference concludes. The two-year, EU-funded project produced guidance, tools, training programmes and set up a European Rural Mobility Network (ERMN) whose legacy will be continued through various Rural Pact activities.
