• Objective 2

structure and enable collaboration and mutual learning between Pact members
  • Objective 3

encourage and monitor voluntary commitment for action by Rural Pact community members
Description

Description of the action

ENERKOM Liptov is a renewable energy community initiated by the Local Action Group "Partnerstvo pre MAS Dolný Liptov". The idea originated within the LAG, which acts as the initiator, facilitator and coordinator of the process. The community was formally established in 2026 as a civic association under Slovak energy legislation. It brings together municipalities, small and medium-sized enterprises and citizens from the Liptov region.

Objectives

The main objective is to increase the energy stability and resilience of the Liptov region and to reduce the exposure of local actors to volatile energy prices on the market. Members will share surplus electricity produced by their photovoltaic installations, so that locally generated renewable energy stays in the region and benefits local communities. A second objective is to transfer the experience gained to other rural areas in Slovakia and to encourage other Local Action Groups to establish their own energy communities.

Concrete activities

  • Setting up the energy community: legal registration, internal governance and the first members' meetings.
  • Engaging municipalities, local businesses and citizens: information meetings, consultations and recruitment of members across the Liptov region.
  • Launching energy sharing: connecting members' photovoltaic installations and establishing the sharing of surplus electricity between them.
  • Advisory support: helping members with questions on renewable energy, energy savings and participation in the community.
  • Knowledge transfer: documenting the process and sharing the lessons learned, practical materials and templates with other Local Action Groups through the National Network of LAGs, to motivate them to create energy communities in their own territories.

Final results

By the end of the monitored period, ENERKOM Liptov will be a stable renewable energy community providing its members with full support and background for sharing electricity. The benefits will reach beyond the members who share energy and will have an impact on the whole region, as energy costs will decrease for municipalities, local businesses and residents alike. We also expect this action to inspire other Local Action Groups in Slovakia. Through the National Network of LAGs, we will pass on our experience and know-how, so that they can start creating energy communities in other parts of Slovakia and strengthen the resilience of rural areas across the country.
