Description

The European Rural Youth Observatory (EURYO), in collaboration with Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore - Milano, invites PhD students, researchers, and practitioners to join the Rural Youth Alternative Futures Summer School, taking place from 7–11 September 2026 in Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira Island (Azores, Portugal).

This immersive five-day programme offers a unique opportunity to explore new narratives, skills, and place-based approaches for supporting rural youth across Europe. Through interactive sessions, expert-led discussions, and field experiences, participants will connect research, policy, and practice in a truly international learning environment.

This Summer School proposes a series of learning outcomes for the participants, namely :

  • Acknowledging demographic trends associated with rural youth
  • Application of co-design for developing formal and non-formal education programmes
  • Use of the decent jobs perspective for designing labour market interventions for rural youth
  • Identifying rural entrepeneurship dimensions and best-practices
