A recent policy brief by the Horizon 2020 COCOREADO project sets out recommendations to involve, educate, connect and empower young citizens’ participation in food systems decision-making and development processes.

Empowering young citizens’ involvement in the transition towards sustainable food systems

The brief makes the case for actively involving young people at all levels, from EU-level projects to local decision-making bodies, to enhance and lead sustainable change. It outlines ongoing issues in rural areas – also discussed at a COCOREADO policy workshop in January 2024 – such as consumer consciousness of food sustainability and fairness, and barriers to generational renewal due to limited access to land, credit and training.
