Central and Eastern Europe join forces to advance sustainable bioeconomies through the BIOEAST initiative
The initiative strengthens cooperation across Central and Eastern Europe to build knowledge-based, sustainable bioeconomies that drive innovation, resilience and growth in rural areas. BIOEAST supports countries in developing national bioeconomy strategies, building research and innovation capacity, and creating synergies between agriculture, forestry, aquaculture, energy and food systems.

New forest mitigation indicators to support climate-smart management
The Horizon Europe project OptFor-EU has developed a novel set of Essential Forest Mitigation Indicators (EFMIs) to guide climate-smart forest management across Europe. Designed through a participatory process involving scientists, forestry professionals and stakeholders, the 21 indicators are grouped into six categories, including carbon storage, forest health, biodiversity and climate adaptability.
